Daffodils are blooming, birds are singing, and we are all stuck in the middle of this pandemic. Perhaps you are so focused on just surviving each day that you have missed the fact that spring has sprung! Whether you are on the frontlines working in healthcare, working from home while taking care of kids, or retired and homebound, whatever your situation, we are ALL stuck and want it to be over.
Rather than focus on what we can’t do or where we can’t go, perhaps we can focus on what is waiting for us on the other side – lazy summer days at Lake Maxinkuckee, filled with family, sunshine and re-connecting.
If you do not live at the lake year-round, you may be wondering how your vacation community is faring. The list-serve, Town Gown and Lake (TG&L) has been doing an amazing job of keeping everyone informed and connected. If you want to know what is going on in Culver, you need to be on TG&L. Another great way to connect to Lake Maxinkuckee is to visit the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council’s new website. Upcoming Events concerning the lake will be posted, as well a Resources page with important links and a What Can I Do page of conservation tips for lakeside living. I hope it will become a valuable conservation tool and a source of information, whether you are at the lake for a week, a month or all year long. www.lakemax.org

Hi, I’m Debbie Palmer. I received a BS in Horticulture from Purdue University. Here at LMEF, I am responsible for outreach presentations, monitoring the lake and it’s wetlands, project manager for restoration and research projects, and act as a community resource for all things related to the well-being of Lake Maxinkuckee and its surrounding watershed. I completed Indiana Watershed Leadership Academy, volunteer with the Indiana Clean Lakes Program, Hoosier River Watch and Marshall County Lakes and Waters and serve as a Board Member for Indiana Lakes Management Society.
